Diskovery represents unique opportunities for members of the academic community to purchase computer products (software, peripherals, supplies) at reduced and/or specially designed educational discounted prices. To qualify for these special academic prices, software publishers and technology vendors within the industry set specific purchasing eligibility criteria. Special priced academic product listed through Diskovery are indicated as such.

Though academic qualifications can vary per vendor, established below is a universal guideline to help determine the eligibility of an institution or individual for academic status to purchase academic products. Where applicable vendor specific academic qualifications are listed. It is the sole discretion of individual vendors to accept qualifications. These requirements must be satisfied to order specially academic priced product.

To qualify for these special academic prices, software publishers and technology vendors within the industry set specific purchasing eligibility criteria. Special priced academic product listed through Diskovery are indicated as such.

Where applicable vendor specific academic qualifications are listed. It is the sole discretion of individual vendors to accept qualifications. These requirements must be satisfied to order specially academic priced products.

Institutional purchase orders are required and may be mailed or faxed. Personal orders may be mailed, faxed, phoned in or emailed, but can not be processed until proper eligibility qualifications, as listed below, are either mailed or faxed.

Academic Eligibility Requirements Defined
 

Academic Institutions

A public or private school, vocational school, correspondence school, junior college, university, scientific or technical institution accredited by associations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, including the district, regional and State Administrative offices.

A public elementary, secondary, vocational and/or correspondence school accredited by the State Board of Education, including the district, regional and State Administrative offices.

A private elementary, secondary, vocational and/or correspondence school accredited by a national, regional or state agency, including the district, regional and State administrative offices.

Supervisory accredited organizations such Boards of Education, School District Administrative Offices, State Departments of Education, or Ministries of Education.

A preschool meeting all of the following criteria:
a. Has an early childhood program that serves a minimum of ten children ages two through five.
b. Has been in operation for at least one year, uses public or private, profit or nonprofit facilities.
c. Is state licensed, regulated or accredited; and provides educational and/or childcare services.

Hospitals that are wholly owned and operated by a qualified academic institution as described above.

 
When requested the institution is obligated to show proof of applicable accreditation by certificate or letter that verifies accreditation status. It is the sole discretion of individual vendors to accept qualifications. It is also individual vendors discretion to accept other accrediting agencies.

Signed and dated Institution Purchase Orders are required for all orders.
 

 

Faculty and Staff

Full and part time faculty and staff currently employed at an accredited academic institution.

Requires two forms of ID (one being a picture ID) verifying current employment status. This may be a copy of an institution ID card, copy of check stub (black out payment amounts), signed statement by a supervisor or personnel on institution letterhead indicating current status or other similar verification along with copy of Driver's license.

Once on file with Diskovery, this information will need to be updated yearly.

Orders will not be processed without this required information.

 

 

Post-Secondary Students

Full and part time matriculated students currently enrolled at an accredited higher education institution. (Higher Education Institution may be a junior college, four year college, university, vocational school, correspondence school, technical institution, or scientific institution.)

Requires two forms of ID (one being a picture ID) verifying current enrollment status. This may be a copy of an institution ID card, copy of registration form, signed statement by a instructor or admissions on institution letterhead indicating current status or other similar verification along with copy of driver's license.

Once on file with Diskovery, this information will need to be updated/reviewed per semester.

Orders will not be processed without this required information.

 

 

Parents

Eligible to purchase non-ID required products for children in K-12 and Preschool.

There are few products where K-12 students may purchase ID required products. (This would require a letter identifying them by name from the instructor on school letterhead.)

If purchasing for a son or daughter currently enrolled at an accredited higher education institution, then requirements as outlined in the Post-Secondary Student section is required.

 

 

Libraries, Museums and Correctional Facilities

Copy of IRS Tax Status 501 C3(a) Certificate.

Copy of certificate indicating educational accredited association (where applicable)

Eligibility to purchase academic priced products vary per vendor. When requested the institution is obligated to show proof of applicable accreditation by certificate or letter that verifies accreditation status. It is the sole discretion of individual vendors to accept qualifications. It is also individual vendors discretion to accept other accrediting agencies.

Adobe Qualified Educational User Definition (as of 9/1/01)

The Adobe Academic Reseller Authorization requires resellers to sell exclusively to qualified Educational End Users. The following provides clear information on Adobe policy. This same information is part of the Agreement between Adobe and the Reseller.

 
Educational Institutions: Qualified Examples
 

Accredited public or private primary or secondary school providing full-time instruction for grades K-12 or a school district for such schools

Accredited public or private university or college (including community, junior or vocational college) that grants degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time study*

Administrative Offices or Boards of Education of Educational Institutions

Home schools approved by Adobe in its sole discretion

Government schools located in United States territories

Named Educational Entities approved by Adobe, only if individual named entities are approved by Adobe in writing if not already listed by Adobe on its Web site

Hospitals that are wholly owned and operated by an educational institution. Wholly owned and operated means the educational institution is sole owner of the hospital and only entity exercising control over day to day operations.

Higher education research laboratories that are a public institution and recognized by the Department of Education, teach students as part of their research mission, can provide copy of Bylaws that states the relationship with controlling university

Educational Consortia and Systems: Corporations and associations validly organized and existing under the laws of a state or territory of the United States, each member or shareholder of which is an accredited school. Approved: Oregon Educational Technology Consortium (OETC).

Training centers or schools granting certificates for courses such as computer software training or job training that are not accredited schools that grant degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time study*

Military schools that do not grant academic degrees

Research laboratories not recognized by the Department of Education. For example, institutions recognized by other government branches such as the Department of Defense or Energy are not eligible. Examples include: Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Individual: Qualified Examples
 

Qualified individuals who acquire Educational Software Products for their own personal use but not for further distribution or transfer and who have presented to Reseller Appropriate Identification of current status as: Students enrolled in grades K-12 at an accredited public or private primary or secondary school providing full-time instruction

Full or part time students enrolled at higher education institutions defined as accredited public or private university or college (including community, junior or vocational college) that grants degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time study

Full or part time faculty and staff employed by accredited K-12 and higher education institutions.

Other qualified examples as listed by Adobe from time to time on its Internet Web site or in other written communication.

 
Individual: Non-Qualified Examples
 

Students not currently enrolled at an accredited K-12 and higher education institution.

Faculty and staff not currently employed at an accredited K-12 or higher education institution that grants degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time study.

Students, faculty and staff who are not willing or able to provide Appropriate Identification

Students, faculty or staff enrolled or employed by named Educational Entities. Examples include: hospitals, higher education research laboratories, educational consortia and other examples that may be listed by Adobe from time to time on its internet Web site or in other written communication from time to time.

 
The Adobe Academic Reseller Authorization requires resellers to authenticate qualified Educational End Users according to the following policies for appropriate identification. This information is part of the signed agreement between Adobe and the Reseller.
 
Appropriate Identification: Individual
Definition. For a Purchase by an Individual, Appropriate Identification means:
 

Clear, readable copies of the following documents: A current, valid photo identification and valid evidence of current enrollment at or employment by an Educational Entity. Examples include without limitation:

School photo identification card that includes date validating current status; or

School photo identification or drivers license or other official photo identification with corroborating evidence including but not limited to: faculty or staff pay check stubs; student course curriculums or tuition bill with a valid date and printed with the Educational Entity logo or seal; an official letter from the registrar of the Educational Entity; or

For K-12 students only: when the above-listed Appropriate Identification is not available, an official letter from a teacher at the Educational Entity verifying the student's right to order Educational Software Products; or such other identification as permitted by Adobe from time to time by posting a list of such Appropriate Identification on its Internet Web site.

Validity. Each identification provided to Reseller shall be valid for a period of time not to exceed one (1) year from the date that the Appropriate Identification was actually furnished to Reseller, or, if applicable, the expected graduation date for the Individual, whichever is less.

 
Appropriate Identification: Educational Entity
Definition. For a Purchase by an Educational Entity, Appropriate Identification means:
 

a valid, official purchase order issued by an Educational Entity; or

current credit card information with the proper name, billing address, and 'ship to' or delivery address of the Educational Entity; or

a current personal credit card or check payment from Individuals who are faculty or staff with a 'ship to' or delivery address of the Educational Entity; or

such other Appropriate Identification as permitted by Adobe from time to time by posting a list of such Appropriate Identification on its Internet Web site.

 

 
Borland International

Borland Qualified Educational User Definition (as of 9/1/01)

The Borland Scholar Program provides many offerings to serve the needs of accredited educational institutions. All of Borland's Scholar tools are full-version development and database products offered at significant discounts. These software programs are specifically available for purchase by any public or private U.S. institution accredited by associations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the State Board of Education. Non-U.S. educational customers should contact their regional Borland Educational Representative: www.inprise.com/programs/education.

 
The following is a list of qualifying educational institutions:
 

Educational Institutions:
All accredited schools such as: Any public or private institution accredited by associations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the State Board of Education. Examples: K-12, vocational school, junior college, college, university or scientific or technical institutions.

Administrative Offices of Educational Institutions:
Any administrative office created for the sole purpose of supporting an educational institution, such as: District, regional, departmental and state administrative offices for any of the Educational Institutions named in "Educational Institutions" above.

All Employees of Educational Institutions:
Any employee defined as full, part time or adjunct faculty and staff of an Educational Institution as named in "Educational Institutions" above.

All Students of Educational Institutions:
Any enrolled full or part time student of Educational Institutions as named in Section A above.

Educational Consortia and Systems:
Any corporations and associations validly organized and existing under the laws of a state or territory of the United States, each member or shareholder of which is an accredited school as described in "Educational Institutions" above.

Medical Facilities Associated with Educational Institutions:
Any medical facility associated with an Educational Institution, such as:

College or University Medical Center or Hospital.

College or University Medical Research Department.

 

 
Macromedia Incorporated
Macromedia Qualified Educational User Definition & Guidelines (as of 9/1/01)

Macromedia, Inc. offers qualified Education Institutions or Organizations and eligible Education End Users the ability to buy education versions of Macromedia products for internal administrative or educational instruction purposes. Education versions of Macromedia products cannot not be used for any commercial purpose. A commercial purpose is any revenue-generating activity beyond the usual and customary activities educational institutions engage into.
 
Which institutions do qualify as an approved Education Institution or Organization?
 

Accredited public and private Kindergarten through 12th grade schools, such as pre-schools, primary schools, secondary schools, grammar schools, middle schools, and high schools.

Accredited public or private universities, colleges and junior colleges that grant degrees requiring at least two years of full-time matriculation.

School districts, administrative offices and boards of education that purchase for the above-mentioned schools.

Hospitals, libraries, labs and museums wholly-owned and operated by the above-mentioned schools.

Home schools approved by Macromedia in its sole discretion.

Non-profit organizations as defined by Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, or as defined by Revenue Canada Income Tax Act, Section 149.1 on charities.

 
Which institutions do not qualify as an Education Institution or Organization?
 

Non-accredited schools.

Federal, state and local government organizations except for federal and state Departments of Education. If you are a government organization.

Military academies that do not provide an academic degree.

National laboratories, such as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Training centers or schools offering certificates for computer software courses.

Non-profit lobbyist groups.

 
Which persons qualify as an approved Education End Users?
 

Full time students enrolled in a degree-granting program at an approved Education Institution or Organization.

Full time faculty, staff or employees at an approved Education Institution or Organization.

Microsoft Qualified Educational User Definition & Distribution Guidelines (as of 9/1/01)

Note: these guidelines are only valid for the United States. Residents of other countries should check with their local Microsoft subsidiary for academic pricing and qualification information.

Microsoft Qualified Educational User Definition (US Only)
All Microsoft Eligible Education Customers must be located or reside in the United States. Microsoft Corporation shall resolve any issues relating to the eligibility of customers to purchase AE product at its sole discretion. RESELLER must validate customer eligibility via collection of a valid purchase order prior to all distribution to Qualified Education Users. In the case of distribution to Higher Education students, full time faculty and staff of Education Institutions, RESELLER must also collect and keep a proof of student enrollment or employment from the Educational Institution. Proof of enrollment must either be a copy of an official photo identification card from the Education Institution or official documentation from the Educational Institution's registration office verifying that the individual is matriculating student at the institution at the time of purchase. If the official identification card does not include a photo graph of the student, the copy of the identification card must be accompanied by a second source photo identification. Only Campus Resellers (must be physically located on campus) are waived from keeping a copy of valid ID once the Campus Reseller has verified customer's eligibility. The following are eligible to acquire the following Microsoft Academic Edition (AE) products and are defined as Qualified Educational Users:

 

Educational Institutions
Defined as an accredited K-12 education institution or higher education institution organized and operated exclusively for purpose of teaching its matriculating students. An accredited institution must be:

A public or private K-12, vocational school, correspondence school, junior college, college, university, or scientific or technical school meeting all of the following criteria: (i) organized and operated exclusively for purpose of teaching its matriculating K-12 or higher education students; and (ii) institutionally accredited by Regional Institutional Accrediting Agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. Hospitals, healthcare systems and research laboratories (e.g. independent research laboratories or research laboratories affiliated with the Department of Defense or the Department of Energy) are NOT eligible to acquire AE products unless they are wholly owned and operated by a qualified Educational Institution as defined above in this Section A, and even if they are wholly owned they are NOT eligible to purchase Campus Agreement or School Agreement and are NOT eligible to be included as part of an Educational
Institution's Campus Agreement or School Agreement. To be "Wholly owned and operated" the entity must be owned, controlled, and operated solely by the Educational Institution. Academic Pricing Eligibility Requirements
Qualified customers can receive special academic pricing on our software products. To receive special pricing, you must be a qualified student, faculty member, staff member, or an accredited institution. You will need to provide proof of your academic status.
 
Who is eligible?
 

College Students: Matriculating college, university, and career school students qualify for academic pricing.

High School Students: Currently enrolled high school students qualify for academic pricing.

Faculty/Staff: K-12 and all post-secondary faculty and staff members qualify for academic pricing.

 
What type of identification is required?

Qualifications - Institutions
The academic qualifications established below is a guideline to help determine the eligibility of an institution or individual for academic status to purchase academic products from Symantec Academic Resellers.

An Academic Institution must be organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes and meet the criteria for one of the following:
 

Be a public or private school, vocational school, correspondence school, junior college, university, scientific or technical institution accredited by associations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, including the district, regional and State Administrative offices.

Be a public elementary, secondary, vocational and/or correspondence school accredited by the State Board of Education, including the district, regional and State Administrative offices.

Be a private elementary, secondary, vocational and/or correspondence school accredited by a national, regional or state agency, including the administrative offices.

Be a preschool meeting all of the following criteria: is an early childhood program that serves a minimum of ten children ages two through five has been in operation for at least one year uses public or private, profit or non-profit facilities is state licensed, regulated or accredited; and provides educational and/or childcare services.

 
Other Qualified Institutions May Include the Following:

When requested the institution is obligated to show proof of applicable accreditation by certificate or letter that verifies accreditation status to Symantec’s satisfaction of compliance with the applicable qualification criteria. Symantec may accept other accrediting agencies in its sole discretion.
 
Qualifications - Students and Faculty

The academic qualifications established below are a guideline to help determine the eligibility of an institution or individual for academic status to purchase academic products from Symantec Academic Resellers.
 

Students, Faculty, and Staff of Accredited Colleges/Universities:
